AN INSIGHT INTO VILLAINOUS CHARACTERS

So as before, villains are an important part of the fantasy novel structure as well as many more genres, as they help our hero’s to mature and provide an achievable goal whilst simultaneously brining the relationship between the reader and the hero closer together as they are united in the hero’s quest against the villain.
Some common villainous traits in characters are;

·

    • Dictatorship
    • Power obsessed
    • Cruel
    • Abusive
    • They misuse their power
    • They misuse the trust put in them
    • They are an oppressor
    • Use bad language
    • Have threatening body language
    • Appear angry or permanently distracted
    • Aggressive
    • They misunderstand intentions
    • Take things the wrong way

Can you add a few?

·

§

      • The big fight scene – everyone knows it’s the climax
      • The apocalypse
      • To bring about the end of the world
      • Rule the world
      • The darkness
      • He is coming – ominous tack tick
      • They kill anyone who fails them
      • They always wear black – symbolism

Some villains are portrayed as such because of events causing them to misjudge a situation, affect their mental health or something tragic has happened, making them complex villains/ anti-hero’s as they are relatable characters, causing a paradox between a reader’s devotion towards the hero and the villain.

I hope you enjoyed this insight into Villainous characters.
